Microsoft’s Scroogled campaign has been fairly controversial in the tech world as Microsoft have gone to great lengths to attack Google for a variety of reasons. Those include Google’s monetisation of customer data, Google’s disregard for customer privacy and Google’s tendency to favour paid searches rather than quality searches. Microsoft recently made a statement to Softpedia about why they’ve been silent over the past few months with regards to Google. In essence Microsoft believe that there is no public attack on Google that makes sense right now so they are waiting for the right moment.
“We are always evaluating and evolving our marketing campaigns. There are times when we use our marketing to highlight differences in how we see the world compared to competitors, and the Scroogled campaign is an example of this. Moving forward, we will continue to use all the right approaches and tactics when and where they make sense” Said a Microsoft spokesperson.
Microsoft’s most recent campaign, pictured above, attacked Google’s Chromebook as “pretty much a brick” without internet that just makes it easier for Google “to track what you do so they can sell ads”.
