Modders Solve God of War Windows 10/11 Exclusivity Issue!

Although I’m only about 10 hours into the newly released God of War on PC, and not to mention the fact that it’s only the first month of 2022, I don’t think it an exaggeration to say that this is so far looking to perhaps be one of the best games I play this year. It’s absolutely amazing (as it was on the PS5), but thanks to the enhancements offered on the PC platform, it looks nothing short of stunning!
While this was, undoubtedly, one of my most anticipated PC gaming releases, however, I’ll freely admit that I learned something new about it today. Namely, that it was only compatible with Windows 10 and 11. Yep, Windows 7 and 8 users were not invited to this party. – Thanks to the modding community, however, that was, until now!
Modders Give God of War Windows 7/8 Support!
Admittedly, the fact that God of War will not run natively on Windows 7 and 8 is more than a little bit unusual. This is, in fact, the first major AAA-gaming title I can think of that hasn’t offered some kind of official support for the admittedly rather dated operating systems (yes, before you flood the comments, I’m sure there are probably have been a few before this!). – Considering that it has been over a year since Microsoft officially stopped support for Windows 7 (and around 4-5 for Windows 8), however, the decision perhaps isn’t overly surprising in the grand scheme of things.
With that in mind though, what do you do if you want to play God of War but haven’t made the move to Windows 10 or 11? Well, thanks to the work of modders, ‘okt04175’ and ‘alan2350’, they have found a way to get around this problem!
How Does it Work?
Although the mod does require a little work on the user’s part, what it effectively does is reconfigure the game’s recognition of the operating system to detect Windows 10 and 11 rather than Windows 7 or 8. – This would, therefore, seem to suggest that there’s no specific reason why God of War couldn’t be allowed to run on those operating systems, it was just (apparently) locked out.
The only downside to the mod is that once installed, the game files will (according to modders themselves) no longer work should the operating system actually be subsequently upgraded to Windows 10 or 11. Let’s face it though, if you’re planning on playing God of War with Windows 7 or 8, you’ve probably already long made your mind up that upgrading to 10 or 11 is never going to happen for you!
