More Awesome Custom RX 480 Cards Revealed

AMD’s new graphics card, the RX 480 has just released and while only stock versions of the card were available on release, news is starting to come out regarding custom variants of the card. Hopefully with the custom cooling units that such versions include, it may be able to conquer one of the current weaknesses when it comes to overclocking the RX 480, the stock cooler.
Firstly, in a press release Asus unveiled their Strix version of the RX 480 and although they didn’t release much information on the card, they promised that more information would be released soon. There are a couple of features we can derive from the images in the release however, most notable are the two PCIe power connectors, compared to the single 6-pin connector on the stock card, which hints at higher clock speed, as well as better overclocking headroom thanks to increased power delivery. When combined with the stylish 3-fan cooling setup, this card could be a great candidate for those looking to overclock an RX 480.
Meanwhile, rumours are circulating regarding a custom RX 480 from MSI and there is no official information regarding it except for an image of a red MSI branded RX 480 Gaming X card with MSI’s own site claiming that Twin-Frozr IV cooled RX 480 cards are coming soon.
Reviews of the RX 480 recently went live and while the card is certainly a great package for those looking for the best price to performance ratio, the card has been let down by both its stock cooling solution and modest power draw from the single connector. With AIB partners reporting that improved cooling solutions allow the RX 480 1480MHz to 1600MHz, those looking to get the most out of the 480 might be best waiting for one of the numerous custom cards that are likely to hit the market soon.
