More Images of Lenovo’s Legion Go Handheld Show Nintendo Switch-Like Controllers

A few weeks ago we saw some leaked information suggesting that Lenovo was working on a gaming handheld device, unfortunately, that information mostly hinted towards an old prototype that didn’t seem likely to hit stores anytime soon. Today some more information has been shared including some official photos which look vastly different from the previously seen concepts including a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Like Design.

Lenovo Legion Go

Exclusive images of this new handheld console have been shared by windowsreport.com giving us some solid information on another player in the handheld market. This new handheld appears to have taken various aspects from its competition starting with the Nintendo Switch as it utilises removable “joy-cons” which would be a first for a PC-based handheld as far as I am aware. Additionally, the control layout is very similar to the ROG Ally with the inclusion of a plethora of extra buttons on the rear. It also appears to include a trackpad on the right side similar to that of the Steam Deck. It’s likely that the “joy-cons” will receive their own name from Lenovo but it will be interesting to see how they plan on using this design since the purpose of them with the Switch is for motion control or as a standalone controller with a central connecting piece.

Specs

The initial leaked information on this handheld from a few weeks ago suggested that this handheld would be focused on cloud gaming but fortunately, that is also not the case. The information shared states that this handheld will use Windows 11 and would be powered by AMD’s new Phoenix processors meaning that this will be a fully-fledged gaming handheld ready to compete. The display is also supposedly bigger than the ROG Ally at 8 inches bt there is no information on the resolution or refresh rates. On the rear of the device, we can see the large cooling vents above the embedded kickstand as well as plenty of additional buttons.

Final Thoughts

The handheld market is growing quite well with Valve, ASUS and Ayaneo being staple names in the industry. If Lenovo goes through with this it will be good news as more competition should keep the handheld market in check which they can hopefully offer something to truly compete. I really want to know how they’ll implement the “joy-cons” with Windows 11.
