Mountain Makalu 67 Gaming Mouse Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Mountain Makalu 67 Gaming Mouse is available to order from the official Mountain website. It’s priced at just £59.99, which I think is really competitive given the level of features and the unique design. It’s about on par with what you’d expect to pay for a well-equipped gaming mouse from any other big name brand.

Overview

I really like what Mountain is trying to do here, and not only that, they’ve done it really well. There’s a clear trend with their product range, that they’re not only trying to do something unique, but something really meaningful, cool and unique. However, their focus also seems firmly focused on excellent performance first, and that’s what I really love about them.

Build Quality

The Makalu 67 is certainly a unique looking product. Their lightweight design uses their patented ribcage design, allowing it to weight just 67 grams. The ABS mould is really high quality, and you can really thump and push down on it and it doesn’t seem to bother it, so strength is not an issue here. Furthermore, the use of the fantastic PixArt PWM3370 sensor and Omron switches just adds to this being a premium quality product. I also really like what they’ve done with the cable, it’s super soft and yet strong. However, it’s also the most flexible cable I’ve ever seen on a mouse, it’s really cool.

Performance

The most important thing for me is that a mouse feels comfortable in my hand. I can actually take a slight compromise on sensor performance for comfort, but I do spend many hours working and gaming and I’m hardly an eSports champion either. However, this mouse is both extremely comfortable for me, and it has flawless performance. The PixArt PWM tracks really smooth throughout the DPI range and has a low lift-off height and no jitter. Plus, those slipmats on the bottom of the mouse give it incredible glide.

Final Thoughts

Ultra-light, incredibly stylish and with silky smooth performance. The Makalu is ticking all the right boxes for those who want a very cool mouse that’s comfortable enough to use in the office all day, but serious enough to game all night too.
