MSI Clutch GM41 Lightweight Wireless Mouse Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The MSI Clutch GM41 RGB Optical Lightweight Gaming Mouse is just £49.99. However, if you want to step up to the wireless model, you’ll need to pay a little more, but it’s still very reasonable at just £69.99 and it’s one of the most affordable mice with this level of specifications and a dedicated charging dock too!

Overview

When I first reviewed the MSI GM41 at the start of this year, I really liked what it had to offer. I actually said “While this may be marketed as a gaming mouse, I think it’s more just a PC mouse in its purest form.” and “It’s just great quality switches, a fantastic sensor, and a lightweight design that glides like its on ice. If that sounds like what you need for your work, gaming, or just scrolling reddit all day, the Clutch GM41 RGB is ticking all of the right boxes. Highly recommended.” and all of that is still very much true.

There are some notable improvements, though, with the obvious one being the addition of wireless connectivity. However, it’s the range of connectivity options that impresses me the most. First, you can use the little USB dongle to pair the mouse with your laptop or PC. Second, you can use the dongle in the charging hub to do the same, and it acts like a little range extender; handy if the signal can’t make it from under your lead-lined desk. Finally, you can hook up a micro-USB cable to the mouse (there’s one included in the box) and use it in a fully wired mode if you really need to.

Furthermore, you can charge it directly with the USB cable or drop it on that funky charging dock. It’s a funny-looking hub, but honestly, I love how the mouse is displayed like some model spaceship when it’s placed on your desk; it’s simple but really cool. The mouse only takes 90 minutes to charge, and with the RGB off, you’ll get 80 hours from it, so it’s unlikely it’ll ever say “low battery” while you’re in the middle of an all-night Civ 6 marathon (I should know).

Should I Buy One?

If you don’t need wireless, the stock GM41 is a little cheaper and lighter and an excellent mouse overall. However, for this price range, the wireless performance is flawless, and the upgraded sensor even offers a higher max DPI vs the wired model. At just 9g heavier than the wired model, this is still an ultralight gaming mouse, too, making it very comfortable to use for long periods and a great work and gaming mouse overall.
