How Much Does It Cost?

The MSI GTX 1660 6GB Gaming X Graphics Card is available from today with an MSRP of $239.99 in the US, and £249.99 in the UK. That does make it one of the most expensive GTX 1660 cards launching this week. However, with the fantastic Gaming X dual-fan cooler, and the highest boost clock, it’s up to you if you want a cheap card that’s just a wee bit faster than the pack.

Overview

I think MSI has done a great job with the new GTX 1660 chipset. Sure, they’re charging a small premium over their rivals right now. However, I’m sure each brand will also have their own equally priced faster cards. Furthermore, I’m sure MSI will have a bunch of them closer to MSRP, it’s just this is the one we got for review.

Gaming

This is a gamers card, and while you might think all GPUs are, they’re not. So many GPUs are just too damn expensive for the masses these days. RTX 2080 Ti, amazing as it is, is the reserve of the prosumer and enthusiast. If you or your kids want a new PC/upgrade, or you’re looking to take your first dive into PC gaming, then 4K hardware likely isn’t on the shopping list. At £200-250 the GTX 1660 offers superb performance for 1080p and 1440p, which is nothing to be sniffed at.

A Modest Evolution

Switching to the new 12nm process, Nvidia are now making all their GPUs on the same process. This means they can shut down the old fabs, and likely save a lot of money. This also means all their refresh cards are basically all-new. The end result is better efficiency, temperatures, noise levels and performance. The results certainly speak for themselves. While all the cards have a base clock of 1530 MHz, MSI offer a Boost Clock of 1860 MHz, and great OC potential too. For this price, it’s going to be hard to beat.
