Although it, fortunately, doesn’t happen too often in the tech world, products do occasionally come onto the market with a design flaw that sometimes isn’t discovered until it’s in consumers’ hands. It’s always unfortunate when it happens, but it’s certainly not uncommon either. The real key is often in how the manufacturer deals with the issue. Formal recalls are clearly never great, and more so, are often not cheap to do. To ensure a product is fit for purpose though, sometimes it’s required, and other times, it’s simply just the right thing to do!

With this in mind, therefore, owners of both the MSI MAG CORELIQUID 240R and 360R AIO liquid CPU coolers are going to want to pay attention as a formal recall notice has been issued! – Why? Well, keep reading to find out!

MSI MAG CORELIQUID 240R/360R Recall Issued!

Predominantly, the issue appears to reside with a previously unknown flaw that seems to develop over time. A key and likely reason why this was not discovered in product testing (you don’t tend to test products for a multiple-month period of time). I will, however, let the official recall notice go into the details:

“Recently, we have received feedback from some of our users that they have experienced a drop in heat dissipation efficiency when using the MAG CORELIQUID 240R / MAG CORELIQUID 360R liquid coolers.

Our preliminary investigation has identified that a small portion of the liquid coolers produce sediment that can cause a blockage. This, however, will not cause any damage to your system since the processors are equipped with a protection mechanism against overheating. – MSI cares deeply about our users’ overall experience and we simplified our processes to provide faster product replacement services.” Cont…

“Users can identify whether they have an affected products by looking up the product serial number here. We will provide a comprehensive product replacement (MAG CORELIQUID 240R V2 / 360R V2) service to all affected products that have abnormal heat dissipation ( Example: CPU temperature is higher than 60°C while idle and the cooler is properly seated with thermal paste applied between the CPU and cooler ).

Moving forward, we will continue to work with our suppliers to thoroughly inspect all MAG CORELIQUID 240R / 360R liquid coolers that may potentially be affected. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your local MSI Customer Service Center.”

Where Do I Learn More?

Presuming you own a MAG CORELIQUID 240R or 360R, while clearly an inconvenience to remove and ship off for replacement (presuming you’re already using it), based on the fact that this is an issue that has provided confirmed instances of ‘higher than they should be’ CPU temperatures, further investigation is clearly both advised and strongly warranted. – If you do, therefore, want to check your AIO coolers’ serial number against the registry of affected products (and learn more about the recall in general), you can check out the official MSI support website (for this specific recall) via the link here!
