MSI MPG Velox 100R Case Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The MSI MPG VELOX 100R Mid-Tower PC Case is currently selling anywhere from £110 to £130, so it is pretty expensive. that’s around the same price as the Corsair iCUE 465X, or the CoolerMaster Masterbox 530P RGB, which are both equally equipped, dual-window, RGB PC cases and both competitive alternatives too. I’ve seen some criticism that this case is too expensive compared to rivals/expectations, but looking around the market right now, prices are just up in general and £100+ doesn’t go as far as it used to from the big-name brands. You’re getting a big case, lots of glass, four high-quality ARGB fans and controller, dust filters, USB C, etc. These are all premium features and don’t come cheap!

Overview

MSI are certainly better known for their gaming hardware than their cases, but it’s clear they’re pushing into the case market with confidence. I suspect, much to MSI’s dismay, that most will be steered towards similar products from the likes of Corsair, as they’ve got more history in the market and make great products. That being said, there’s nothing inherently wrong with the MSI case, but the branding alone may make it more appealing to the MSI enthusiast rather than the PC enthusiast in general. Tell me in the comments if I’m wrong?! That being said, having an MSI case, PSU, cooler, motherboard, and graphics card all in one build can look seriously kick-ass.

It’s a good size case, with a good range of features that compliment high-end hardware really well. However, features like the excellent cable routing options, removable storage bays, the larger PSU shroud, lift-off side panel hinges and the pre-installed fans and hub all make it an easy case to work with, which will certainly speed things up for everyone but also makes it very friendly for first time builders. It means you don’t need to be some slick modder to get a professional-looking build, with tight cable runs, clean aesthetics and good airflow.

There’s good hardware support too, with room for many of the largest power supplies, air coolers, and liquid cooling hardware, both in terms of larger AIO units or a full custom loop configuration. Four fans are pre-installed, but you can get up to seven in the should you need to. I like the option of the right side fan mount too, as it can have a drastic impact on the visual presentation of your build; it’s up to you which way you fit your front cooling though.

The ARGB lighting is a nice touch too. Obviously, much of it comes from the four pre-installed fans, but there is also a lighting strip on the PSU shroud that adds a nice accent to the overall build. You can tinker with all the lighting from a single button on the front panel, negating the need for desktop software. However, you can pair the cable to your own hub, motherboard or other compatible device and configure it that way too if you so desire.

Overall the MSI MPG VELOX 100R Mid-Tower PC Case offers a nice setup, with plenty of handy features that make for an easy build, and a great aesthetic when you’re done. It’s a little expensive, but it’s competitively priced with rival alternatives, and the addition of those fans, dual windows, vertical mount, PSU shroud, and impressive hardware support makes it a great option for any high-end gaming PC build.
