MSI Radeon HD 7950 Twin Frozr III 3GB Graphics Card Review

With this being the first MSI card we’ve had from a reviewers point of view, we had to reserve judgement until we had tested it fully, though we had our own understanding about the Twin Frozr line of cards, and where it sits within the market. We’ve all heard about the performance, on both graphical and cooling levels, but until we had the card to put through its paces, we had to wait till the testing procedure was thoroughly pitted against, with this particular card; the 7950 Twin Frozr III from MSI.

Performance wise, we see this card being a really strong contender on the 7950 market, and in some cases, not being too far behind the 7970 based graphics cards. When compared to the latest offerings from Nvidia, we see some close results in certain tests but based around the price, the 7950 still comes out on top, as it offers a lot better bang for buck when looking at a clear cut comparison.

Speaking of pricing and where this card falls within the market, we find the card priced at around £330, meaning that it’s on the higher end of the scale, but you do get a lot for your money. Not only do you get a fantastic card from a reliable manufacturer, that can steam ahead of the competition in virtually every test, but you also get a nice bundle included, with a mini DisplayPort adapter, two PCI-Express power connectors, and a CrossFire bridge. On top of all of that, you’ll find this to be one of the most efficient, quietest and lowest temperature based Radeon 7950’s on the market, and that ticks all of the right boxes with us.

The overclock on the core clock to 880MHz from a standard 800MHz has certainly left this card oozing with power and performance, without taking hindrance when it comes to acoustics, power consumption and temperatures, and that all comes down to the fantastic Twin Frozr III cooling solution.

The 7950 really is a fantastic card, and we’re happy to shout that from the roof tops, and MSI have managed to harness the success of the 7950 core, and somehow make it even better. For us, taking a look at this card was an interesting experience, which has left us wanting more, and can only see us wanting to take a look at more cards in the MSI range, not just from the Twin Frozr series but from the whole product library, especially if this card is anything to go by.

Due to the performance on both the cooler performance and of course the graphics cores raw processing power, we’re happy to see this gain our Editor’s Choice Award, and welcome any more MSI graphics cards to come into our labs, as this has been one of the best cards we’ve tested, in a long long time.
