MSI RTX 3070 Gaming X TRIO Graphics Card Review

How Much Does It Cost?

Unfortunately, at the time of writing the retail links for these cards were not available. However, you can check for up to date stock and pricing information on Amazon UK here. However, we do know the MSI RTX 3070 Gaming X Trio has an MSRP of £539, so expect prices at or close to that.

Overview

It’s almost like this was to be expected, and frankly, it makes my job a lot easier when those predictions are right too. This is the most expensive of the three RTX 3070’s we’ve tested today. However, it’s also the one with the highest boost clocks, the bigger cooler, and what do you know… it’s only the fastest too. We’re only talking between 2-4% gains in the best cases though, and in some tests, such as Horizon Zero Dawn 4K, it was equal or within 1 FPS of its rivals. Overall though, there’s enough evidence to put this card in the lead for the RTX 3070s (but only just!)

Furthermore, this card is trading blows with the RTX 2080 Ti in all tests, some times it wins, sometimes it loses, but they’re both incredibly close despite this card being half the price of the RTX 2080 Ti.

Power

Being the biggest card of the bunch, and using the full triple power connectors on the card, you would think this was the most power-hungry card. However, it uses just 351.3 watts putting it between the 333.7 of the Zotac and 389 of the Gigabyte RTX 3070. It was also drastically quieter than both, yet STILL it managed to be a whopping 7c cooler than either of them. So if the performance doesn’t seem like it’s worth the extra investment, the cooler clearly is. This card runs harder, quieter, cooler, and more efficiently than we ever expected. Of course, this is great news for those planning to overclock their card.

Build Quality

It’s top of its game, there’s no doubt about it. The MSI Gaming X Trio range is one of their flagship series, and best coolers, made with all the premium components you could ask for. It has the same level of MSI love and attention they put in the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090. The MSI RTX 3070 Gaming X Trio is likely to be one of the most premium RTX 3070 cards we’re ever likely to see.

Should I Buy One?

When it comes to raw performance, the MSI RTX 3070 Gaming X Trio trades blows with its rivals, but does manage to edge a lead in the more demanding tasks. However, the fast it manages to stay significantly cooler and quieter while doing it, makes this a really fantastic piece of hardware for any PC gamer.
