New SEGA Mega Drive Unveiled – Plays Cartridges and ROMs
Ashley Allen / 8 years ago
Over the last few years, AtGames has released a few variations of its facsimile of SEGA’s Mega Drive (or Genesis, to those in North America) game console, but all have proven to be disappointing, with limited on-board games, no cartridge slot, and terrible IR controllers. Thankfully, Brazilian company TecToy is here to right AtGames’ Mega Drive wrongs.
The TecToy Mega Drive is virtually identical to the original iteration of the classic console – as are its three-button controllers – and supports original Mega Drive cartridges. However, the console also has 22 built-in games, and even has an SD card reader to run downloadable ROMs.
Sadly, the console is missing HDMI output or upscaling (it outputs at 256 x 224 through a composite cable), though that does provide a more authentic Mega Drive experience. Maybe the TecToy Mega Drive will be at its retro best through a CRT television.
