Nintendo is no stranger to VR technology with their Virtual Boy in 1995, though it was a colossal flop. Today some information has come forward that suggests that Nintendo may be considering giving it another go following the more recent rise of VR technology.

Nintendo VR Headset

As reported by mixed, a reliable Nintendo Leaker by the name of Nash Weedle, has made a claim that Nintendo could be working with Google on a VR headset. Weedle states in a translated tweet: “Nintendo already has a prototype of “VR” glasses in testing” and further claims that this will work with independantly from the Switch, use a MicroLED display and will be made in development with Google. Weedle further elaborates on the Google aspect of this leak with the fact that Google recently acquired Raxium who hold patents for “cost-effective and energy-efficient high-resolution MicroLED panels.” It is possible that Google will be involved in the panels for this VR headset as well as the panels for the Switch 2.

What Could Nintendo Do With VR?

Nintendo have quite a few games but they are limited compared to PC’s VR options and even PlayStation VR. It will be interesting to see what kind of VR titles Nintendo come up with but there will most definitely be a Mario VR game which could honestly be very fun. Hopefully Nintendo can offer a dedicated VR system better than their Virtual Boy and even their Nintendo Labo VR kit which lets be honest, doesn’t really count.

As always with leaks, take them with a grain of salt and be sure to let us know your thoughts.
