Noctua NH-U12S DX-3647 (LGA3647) CPU Cooler Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

The retail price in our region is £89.06 for the NH-U12S DX-3647 from Noctua. That certainly isn’t cheap, but it’s a great cooler. When you consider how much you spent on the chips they’ll cool, it really isn’t a lot. On the other side of the pond, you can pick it up for $99.90.

Overview

Right from the start, there can be no doubt that we have a great product, one built for effectiveness. While the colour scheme might not be to everyone’s liking, but that isn’t really relevant here. Servers are meant to work, they’re not meant to be seen and admired for their fanciness. With Noctua’s coolers, you’re sure that heat won’t be an issue.

Build Quality

The overall built-quality doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone. After all, we’ve reviewed a lot of Noctua’s coolers here at eTeknix. The quality stamp is further brightened by the 6-year warranty with which Noctua backs the NH-U12S DX-3647. Only a company that’s sure of the quality of their products would offer such a long warranty, and I agree. This is a superb CPU cooler.

Fans and Heatsink

In terms of its performance, the testing figures speak for themselves. Beyond the cooler design itself, which can only do so much, the fans were clearly more than capable of not only keeping our system cool, but also doing so at impressive low noise levels.

For the fans to work properly, the heat has to be transferred away from the baseplate and upwards into the fins. Noctua’s NH-U12S DX-3647 clearly does this well with the result figures we got.

Should I Buy One?

The short answer is yes. Whether you’re building a one or two-socket server with LGA3647 chips, the NH-U12S DX-3647 will do an awesome job. It will keep your chips well within optimal operating temperature, even when they’re taxed to the maximum.

Pros

  • Great product design
  • Effective performance at relatively low noise levels.
  • Supports square and narrow socket types
  • Two fans and y-cable included
  • Fits dual-socket boards without issues
