Nvidia’s GTX 980 overclocked like a dream: an extra 220MHz on the core and 525MHz on the memory. That equates to a 1.45GHz GPU core clock and 8.08GHz memory clock ON AIR! During overclocking we had to keep the fan speed at 85% to prevent thermal throttling, otherwise the downclocking effect of the thermal management would have borked our results. When we ran our overclocked benchmarks we set the fan profile back to auto but still saw some incredible gains in performance: around 15-20%. When overclocked the GTX 980 easily stumped the best GTX 780 Ti graphics card we’ve tested which is an impressive achievement.
