Nvidia’s GTX 780 Ti is an absolute beast of an overclocker. We managed to add an extra 250MHz to the core and boost clocks without even adjusting any voltages or the power limit. On the memory front we managed to add 225MHz actual, 900MHz effective taking the memory clock to 7.9GHz. By any standards our overclock is pretty conservative because we were able to achieve higher frequencies that were stable in most applications, 3DMark 11 just didn’t want to know and forced us to knock clock backs more than we had hoped.
When overclocked the GTX 780 Ti is quite simply the world’s fastest consumer gaming graphics card. Our results show it to be 5% faster than an overclocked R9 290X in 3DMark 11 Performance. That said AMD cards tend to fare a bit better in the Performance test of 3DMark 11 than the extreme test so I think the gap is more like 10-15% when comparing the reference solution cards at extreme resolutions. Of course with non-reference solutions the battle might be a very different one but that’s for us to see on another day.
