A lot of titles are taking advantage of fur or hair simulations. Whether its AMD’s TressFX or NVIDIA Hairworks, users still want to enjoy those simulated little things that bring life to a character inside the game.
However, NVIDIA might have taken the lead with their latest Hairworks version 1.1. The updated version seems to be able to simulate more hair strains at a lower performance cost than ever before. Don’t expect to see groups of characters with fully fledged ‘fluffy’ hair, but the test really is exciting.
In the video below, the NVIDIA Hairworks 1.1 demonstrates how it is able to simulate a High Quality human-like hair using around 500,000 hair strains. But want to know the best part about it? It seems to have been rendered on a single NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 graphics card. The video has been captured by Tarkan Samir using NVIDIA’s Shadowplay technology.
If you’ve played Far Cry 4, The Witcher 3 or other titles that boast NVIDIA’s Hairworks technology, then you know how cool it makes the game look like. However, the latest update seems to add even more kicks for less performance drawbacks. All we need now is wait and see how this new update is used and what developers can do with it to enhance their titles.
