Taking a first look at the drive we find that it’s quite subtle in black though it stands out with a reflective Vertex 3 sticker label. Due to the styling and the way that most computer systems look in this day and age, it should match in quite well.
The Vertex 3 has a reflective aluminium rear surface which is mainly covered by a large sticker denoting the model number. A barcode sticker is also present with the relevant part number and serial number. There is also four mounting points present for installing the drive into the included OCZ branded bracket for use within a desktop machine.
For other types of installation or for use with chassis that are SSD compliant, we find two mounting points on each side of the driveThe drive can be mounted into a chassis or into a laptop and four screw holes are present, with two on each the side of the drive.
So that no confusion is present in Notebooks and other devices that are to industry standards, the Vertex 3 has its relevant SATA data and power connectors in the usual place; slightly offset from the middle.
Taking a look at the Vertex 3’s insides we can see the SandForce SF-2281 controller chip and eight individual OCZ branded MLC flash memory chips and some other smaller components to help make the drive tick.
Flipping it over we simply find another eight MLC flash memory chips and nothing more.
