Palit Allegedly Tells Customer To Modify VDG ARGB Cable For RTX 4090

An owner of a Palit RTX 4090 has allegedly been recommended by Palit customer support to “hack” together a VDG ARGB cable after the company was unable to provide them with a spare ARGB sync cable for their graphics card.

Palit Recommends Modified Cable

Reddit user overdark33 made a post on the PC Master Race subreddit sharing their interesting experience with Palit support. The user claimed that they contacted Palit support after their open box Amazon Warehouse RTX 4090 card did not contain an ARGB cable so they queried whether they could purchase a spare for their card. Unfortunately for Overdark, Palit claimed that they don’t provide or sell the ARGB Sync cable individually and instead provided them with detailed instructions on modifying an aftermarket 5V 3pin VDG ARGB cable. The instructions effectively involved pulling out the three pins and moving them around or a second method which involved using jumper wires.

An Odd Recommendation

Recommending a customer to modify a cable to use with their £1600 graphics card is a bit concerning. The fact that Palit would rather the customer risk their card with a dodgy DIY cable than offer a legitimate replacement is also strange, especially as the customer was willing to pay. This is a stark contrast to my experience with Corsair’s customer support. I once requested a set of Crystal 680x feet to make my 280x taller for better airflow. I made it clear what I was using them for but Corsair still provided the feet for free despite the unimportant request. On the other hand, we have this ARGB connector, a fairly cheap part which is purely cosmetic but is an actual part of the card rather than the feet from another case.

Palit’s Statement

Of course, we don’t know the full story and I reached out to Palit for a comment regarding the matter and received this response.

We do not encourage users to modify the cable; however, given the current cable shortage, it can be considered as a temporary solution for users who urgently require this ARGB SYNC cable.

Our support team will follow up on the cable arrangement. If anyone else is experiencing the same issue, please contact the Palit support team.

So this whole situation is supposedly down to a shortage of cables and the modification instructions are a temporary solution. Personally, it still seems a bit reckless to recommend this to customers and I’m sure a simple explanation for the cable shortage would’ve been fine which I don’t see in the photos shared.

Do you think that Palit shouldn’t be providing these instructions, Or is it an overreaction? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
