How Much Does It Cost?

The Palit Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER StormX OC graphics card is available now. It has an MSRP of £159.98 but I’ve seen it go as low as £156.49 too. Unfortunately, it looks like Amazon were low on stock at the time of writing, but that will obviously change. You can get a decent RX 580 for about the same money now, so it seems Nvidia and Palit are right on the money here.

Overview

While the new card may be offering competition to the older AMD cards, that’s no bad thing. There are plenty of loyal green fans out there waiting for something affordable and capable, and the GTX 1650 SUPER certainly fits the bill. Of course, while not everyone cares about efficiency, Nvidia has the much older RX 580 well and truly beaten in that regard. It’s a very compact card too, so for those with mini-ITX builds or limited space in general, the Palit card has a lot of appeal to consumers there too.

Gaming Performance

The Palit GTX 1650 Super StormX has some strong competition from AMD at this price range. The Radeon RX 580 may be old hat now, but it’s still competitive for modern gamers who play at 1080p. It’s also a similar price to Palit’s new card! Fortunately, the two trade blows pretty equally in most games. Some games see Palit’s new card win out by a few FPS, some see the older AMD card take the lead. Overall though, for 1080p gaming, the GTX 1650 SUPER has nothing to worry about here.

I could suggest this card can just about game at 1440p, but only if you’re happy with around 45 FPS at high settings. For single-player gaming, that’ll be fine. However, for competitive gamers, dropping the settings to medium would be preferable to reach that 60 FPS target more easily. Keep in mind, this is a very affordable card, so 1440p is pushing your luck, but it’ll do it. Of course, 4K is just not an option on this one outside of older and less GPU intensive games.

The only downside is that the Palit card did tend to run a little noisy. The fan profile was pretty aggressive. However, that had the effect of giving this card quite a big performance boost. It ran pretty cool and ran fast too, but at the cost of acoustic performance.

Should I Buy One?

It really is a mixed thing with these cards. Of course, if you have a competitive 1080p gaming card already, this isn’t really an upgrade for you. However, if you’re still rocking something affordable from a few years ago that just can’t cut it, this is just about one of the cheapest upgrade routes available to you today. It’ll no doubt appeal to those thinking about putting together their first affordable gaming PC and the Christmas “let’s build the kids a PC” market too.
