Parrot Found Ordering Products Off Amazon Alexa

I Don’t Remember Ordering Twelve Cases Of Cuttlefish…

Having recently taken the plunge in purchasing an Amazon Dot Echo earlier this year, I understand why the products are so popular. Admittedly, I’m perhaps not the best consumers as I generally tend to use it to set timers, play the radio and give me the occasional reminder for things I need to do.

The one thing I don’t, however, anticipate it doing is taking orders from my pets. In a report via CNET though, a parrot currently in the care of an animal charity has discovered that it can talk to Alexa with rather amusing results.

Alexa – Cancel That Order!

Rocco the African grey parrot was taken into the care of the National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT) in the UK around a year ago. Initially, Rocco made more than a little impression on the staff as he could both talk and swear like a sailor. Staff member Marion Wischnewski said that despite him causing “a few issues initially in the office, by swearing regularly and throwing his water bowl around” he decided to adopt him. He has, however, found that in his home, with has an Amazon Alexa, the parrot has started talking to it.

Even more worryingly, it’s actually successfully adding things to her shopping list!google bird bicycle

What Do We Think?

As fun and amusing as this sounds, I also think it would be pretty terrifying having your Amazon shopping in the hands of a parrot. If my pets started ordering things online I’d be very concerned! Especially since I own 2 dogs and a tortoise. If a truckload of dog biscuits and lettuce turn up on my doorstep though, I’ll know who to blame now!
