To get connected to the Gauntlet on your smart device, you will need to download the Gauntlet application from the relative store, in this case from the App Store for iOS. Once downloaded and installed connecting to the drive is first done by searching for a wireless network (by default the SSID is GauntletNode and we will also point out that the drives wireless is disabled when connected to a PC via USB).

Once connected, the Gauntlet application quickly detects the drive and shows the root folder down the left of the screen.

As well as files on the drive, a separate local folder can be setup for storing files on a particular drive for access when the Gauntlet is off or unavailable.

Using the upload and download screens, files can easily be swapped between local folders (including the photos folder) with ease.

The settings screen shows a number of different options for connecting to the Gauntlet and also the devices current status including disk usage.

By default the WiFi security mode of the Gauntlet is set to open, so one of the first thing we would recommend is setting this to WPA2-PSK to stop prying eyes from accessing your data when you’re out and about.

One point that I thought of as I got using the drive via wireless was that if you’re connected to that, then how are you supposed to get on the internet (if you’re using an iPad for example). Well thankfully Patriot have foreseen this problem and as a solution the Gauntlet can act as a bridge and pass through WAN traffic.

Overall the Gauntlet App is simple and easy to use, not only for iOS,but also for Android devices as well.
