Patriot Reveal Their First PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD

With AMD blowing the lid off of their upcoming Ryzen 3rd Gen CPU launch, as well as their upcoming X570 motherboards, everyone is hyped about the introduction of PCIe 4.0. The new standard means much higher bandwidth for PCIe devices, such as graphics card, but also storage drives! What this means is that we can now have stupidly fast drives over PCIe lanes. For example, their new Gen4 x 4 M.2 SSD.

The drive users the latest Phison E16 controller, allowing for a staggering 4800 MBs read and around 4000 MB/s write. Up to around 5000 MB/s is capable either way, but they have to find a performance balance and the drives are still being dialled in, so it’s subject to some change.

There will be a 500GB model, a 1TB model and after that a 2TB model. All the drives are expected in Q3 this year. Of course, that should match up with the release of the new motherboards with PCIe 4.0. Unfortunately, no prices just yet, but it’s safe to say that the fastest consumer drives on the market are not going to be cheap.
