The standard Phanteks P400 comes with both solid and windowed side panel options. It’s priced very respectably at just £59.99, so it’s certainly competitive. However, if you want that sexy tempered glass model we reviewed today, there’s obviously a small premium to pay. It’s priced at £79.99, which is obviously more, but very fair given the materials used.
Firstly, I knew this chassis wasn’t going to be a great product from the moment it arrived. Phanteks are well-known for their quality products and have won many awards over the years. Of course, we’ve actually awarded many of those ourselves, so I’m speaking from personal experience here. Furthermore, it’s not exactly a big surprise to us, as this is a chassis we’ve seen in the past, the main upgrade here is the addition of tempered glass and led lighting.
While the P400 was already a rock-solid chassis, a few small tweaks have helped take it to the next level. The addition of a full-sized tempered glass side panel window really completes the build. If you love showing off your sexy new hardware, then tempered glass is the way to go. However, it does mean you need to take care with your build, scruffy cable routing will be there for all to see. Although, this chassis does have competent cable routing, and a handy PSU cover, so even a first time builder can get great results with relative ease.
The build quality is decent, and small additions like the noise dampening top panel covers, and the slide-out dust filters, all help it look, feel, and perform like a premium quality product. A lot of thought has gone into the design, with stealth mounted HDD mounts keeping the build looking clean, while also freeing up a lot of space in the main compartment. Of course, that extra space is ideal for those mounting huge graphics cards, and custom loop water cooling hardware.
The ambient lighting is a nice addition too, allowing you to tweak aesthetics at the touch of a button. It’s not full RGB, but all the popular tones are there, and you’ll easily find one you like. In addition, you’ve also got a fan-speed controller, so you can enjoy the aesthetics without too much unwanted fan noise.
“Colourful lighting and a huge tempered glass window take the Eclipse P400 to a new level. It’s easy to work with, priced competitively, and looks fantastic – A welcome addition to any system build.”
