Ryzen 1700 – The Balance of Power Has Shifted!

The Ryzen 7 1700 Processor has landed with a resounding thump, as one of the most disruptive product launches of recent years. AMD may have been a little slow to get their latest Zen Architecture to the mass market, but good things come to those who wait.

AMD Ryzen 7 Release

“Innovation and competition return to high-performance PCs March 2nd with worldwide Ryzen™ 7 availability. The AMD Ryzen 7 lineup includes the world’s highest performing and lowest powered 8-core PC processors. Immediate pre-order availability from more than 180 retailers and boutique OEMs.” – AMD

8-Cores and 16-Threads!

Equipped with the latest Zen Core architecture, AMD SenseMI technology, and an unlocked clock speed, the R7 1700 is certainly well equipped. With the right cooler, the processor will even overclock its self, ensuring you get the best performance when you need it. Of course, every Ryzen CPU is unlocked and can be overclocked on B350 and X370 motherboards, giving enthusiasts all the high-end performance they desire.

The Ryzen R7 1700 is a competitively priced offering that can give you 90% of the thrills of the R7 1800X (while both are overclocked), making it an attractive choice for those building an AM4 based gaming system or workstation.” – eTeknix

The Balance of Power Has Shifted!

With AMD launching the Ryzen 7, they gave the mass consumer market access to high-performance multi-core CPUs. Most importantly, they released at price range that’s been very disruptive to the market. Intel has many competitive offerings too, but at much higher price points for CPUs suitable for rendering, workstations, content creation and more.

As you can see, the Intel Core i7-7700K is no slouch when it comes to gaming. The Ryzen CPU is not exactly lagging behind by much though, something we saw in our reviews, where it delivered pretty exciting performance. Of course, extra cores and threads play a big part for those who stream their games, allowing lag-free streaming and capture of your favourite games, making it appealing to those who stream on services like Twitch. Content creation is king in our digital world, and the 1700 is a powerhouse for rendering and transcoding workloads. It’s this wide range of uses that continues to add value for money to the Ryzen range, and something that will become more appealing going forward, as prices start to shift in the market.

Performance Where it Matters!

The Ryzen 1700 has been with us a while now; long enough for the performance to be proven around the world. It doesn’t take long to see why it has been selling so strongly and even increasing AMDs market share. We tested the Ryzen R7 1700 in our featured review. Of course, the most exciting stuff was testing 1080, 1440, 2160, and ultrawide gaming performance in our Ryzen Vs Intel performance feature.

The Time to Buy is?

While not the most affordable Ryzen CPU on the market, the R7 1700 represents pretty exciting value for money. It offers most of the high-end thrills of the faster 1800X. However, it does so at a price range that’s kinder to the average consumer. When it comes to gaming above 1080p, streaming your games, rendering video, and so much more, the 1700X is one of the most appealing products on the market today. If you’re planning a build around productivity, the timing of Ryzen is perfect for you.

Price and Availability

The Ryzen R7 1700 is available for £289.75 from Amazon.
