PSVR2 (PlayStation VR 2) May Not Support All Older PSVR Titles

With Sony’s new upcoming PSVR2 headset confirmed for release next year, there is clearly a lot of anticipation surrounding what their next-gen virtual reality product might be capable of. It isn’t, after all, any secret that their original model proved to be a huge hit with consumers with Sony reportedly selling something in the region of 5 million units.

It seems, however, that following a report via CNET, backwards compatibility isn’t going to be a particularly strong suit for the PSVR2. Well, not unless developers of older titles decide to get involved!

PSVR2 Will Likely Only Support Some Older Titles

In response to the question, Sony has said that the design of the PSVR2 is so notably original from the original model (predominantly to its new tracking system which no longer requires an external camera) that it simply couldn’t offer out-of-the-box support for the original PSVR titles. – While it is still possible that original games will still be available to play on the new headset, Sony has confirmed that it will require the developer to release a new update making it compatible with the PSVR2’s hardware.

Now, admittedly, in many cases, this will of course happen. – The bottom line though is that unless the developers of older titles are willing to revisit their prior projects to apply PSVR2 updates, its initial launch library might be a little more limited than many might’ve hoped.

With that being said though, the PlayStation VR 2 still looks pretty awesome and I personally can’t wait to check it out!
