Plextor M6e 512GB PCI Express Solid State Drive Review

AS SSD

The AS SSD software determines the performance of Solid State Drives (SSD). The tool contains five synthetic and three practice tests. The synthetic tests determine the sequential and random read and write performance of the SSD. These tests are performed without using the operating system caches. In Sequential tests the program measures the time it takes to read and write a 1GB file respectively. With most of the benchmark tests showing peak performance from an SSD, I’ve changed AS SSD a little to now give us a clearer picture as to how the drive will perform given variable levels of file compression.

Looking at how the drive reacts to data compression, the Marvell controller that lies at the heart of the M.2 drive has no problems with whatever data it is given. We also note that the performance of the drive rises slightly after the conditioning process has taken place.

  1. Doesn’t the drive activity light work in conjunction with the cases’ light? Having to to be a contortionist to see the status of the drive can be a pain in the neck. (Pun not intended).

    1. The system’s drive activity LED does indeed work in conjunction to the LEDs on the back of the drive. I do apologise for leaving out this bit of information and have now added it into the review for reference.
