Singleplayer:
Although not adding any new maps or single player levels in the DLC, they did add a challenge mode. This is pretty much all of the single player levels with an added feature – you basically challenge your friends! While not directly playing against them, they will be able to see how well you’ve done on each level and in turn you can see how they did. The challenge mode concentrates on how many portals you used to complete the level, and giving you a time after crossing the finishing line (entrance to the lift). Challenge mode was originally in Portal but was omitted from Portal 2 for reasons unknown.
As you can see below, it would seem that out of my 50 steam friends… not too many of them are attempting the challenge mode at the moment! Also no, those weren’t the two portals I used to complete the level… I have a thing for breaking cameras.
Now being one reviewer that doesn’t wish to spoil storylines, I won’t yap about it anymore, though you may be surprised. That’s all I’m saying. Who do you think it is? Got you wondering now haven’t I?
Challenge mode wasn’t just added to the single player element of Portal 2, it was also given to the multiplayer side. Again as before, any map can be replayed by you and a friend to see what your personal best will be. It’s a good addition to the game if you’re really in to it, but for me the challenge modes just aren’t really that appealing. Although the witty remarks made by the characters throughout the game may have given you a good chuckle the first time around, maybe even the second – it can get very annoying hearing it repeat over and over again if you’re trying to beat your PB. You’d probably find yourself muting the game and listening to some music while playing instead.
