PowerColor Red Dragon RX 5600 XT Review

How Much Does It Cost?

The PowerColor 5600 XT Red Dragon is available now from most major retailers. You may need to check Google for the stock, as they’re sold out or coming soon as a few places, but that’s changing pretty much daily like other commodities during this COVID-19 lockdown period. Hey people reading this in a few years, remember these dark days? Jeez! The card is currently priced between £260 and £300 in the UK and $300 in the US.

Overview

Well, there’s nothing really about this card that I don’t like. When we reviewed the first batch of AMD 5600 XT cards, I remarked that AMD had finally found that sweet spot. The lower end 5500 was a little too weak compared to Nvidia offerings for the same money. Yet on the other side, the 5700 XT was too expensive given it lacked the features of the similarly priced RTX cards, at least in my opinion. However, at this price range, the 5600 XT is a strong option to compete with the Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti.

Performance

Without a doubt, anyone gaming at 1080p is going to love this card. We were hitting around 100 FPS in most titles, some a little below, most well above. For those rocking a higher refresh rate display, that’s great news. However, even at 1440p, it was still hitting around 60 FPS with relative ease at high settings. Not bad for a fairly affordable card.

It’s a bit out of its league for 4K gaming, but on older titles or lower settings, you can get playable results, it just depends what you want to get out of gaming if I’m honest. However, at this price, I think we can forgive it running out of steam beyond 1440p.

Should I Buy One?

PowerColor has taken the fantastic RX 5600 XT chipset and really worked their magic on it. They’ve used one of the best looking coolers. Despite being overclocked, it still maintained reasonable noise and temperatures, and most importantly of all, it’s the fastest RX 5600 XT we’ve tested so far. Highly recommended!
