Pricing released for OCZ’s Octane SSD

Less than a month ago, OCZ announced its latest product; the Octane SSDs, the world’s first SSD to achieve 1TB capacities, based on the Indilinx Everest, it was announced to combine high-speed data transfer rates with record-breaking access times.

While the product was explained in more details when it was first announced, OCZ has finally revealed some prices of its first SSD featuring its own controller since the purchase of Indilix, which in the end reflects a competitive price against the SandForce controlled SSDs as you will see.

But before that, here’s a quick refresh of the specs presented by the Octane product line:

  • 1 TB: Max Read: up to 560MB/s, Max Write: up to 400MB/s, Random Write 4KB: 19,500 IOPS, and Random Read 4KB: 45,000 IOPS
  • 512 GB: Max Read: up to 535MB/s, Max Write: up to 400MB/s, Random Write 4KB: 16,000 IOPS, and Random Read 4KB: 37,000 IOPS
  • 256 GB: Max Read: up to 535MB/s, Max Write: up to 270MB/s, Random Write 4KB: 12,000 IOPS, and Random Read 4KB: 37,000 IOPS
  • 128 GB: Max Read: up to 535MB/s, Max Write: up to 170MB/s, Random Write 4KB: 7,700 IOPS, and Random Read 4KB: 37,000 IOPS

Additional specs include 512MB of DRAM cache, a dual-core controller, a SATA 6 GB/s interface, along with the usual features of today’s SSDs and some new ones (if you’re more interested, I invite you to read our original article).

Price wise, we found things to be interesting, starting off with the lowest capacity of 128GB priced at $199.99, followed by the 256GB at $369.99 and finally the 512GB at $879.99. Unfortunately the 1TB capacity has not been given a price yet, which I found to be a shame as I doubt I was the only one looking forward to that.
