Prolimatech Fan Accessories Quick Review

Next we took a look at their FMK-01 Fan Mounting Kit which essentially allows you to put up to four fans into a PCI Express lane slot. Below you can see the package the FMK-01 comes in.

Included is a bundle of various metal pieces, a bag of screws and nuts and a manual.

In the plastic wrapped bundle of “things” we have a PCI lane frame, a fan frame, a PCI express backing cover and some zip ties.

In the bag of screws we have seven fan screws with corresponding nuts and six screws to mount the PCI frame to the case and fan frame to the PCI frame.

First we started by installing the PCI frame.

Then we screwed on its backing cover.

Here you can see it inside the case.

Then we prepared the fan frame with a couple of 120mm fans.

Here you can see how the securing of the fans work.

As far as I am aware because of PCI lane height restrictions you can only use 120mm or smaller fans with the FMK-01 kit.

Installed inside the case you can see it essentially looks like a graphics card and it can be used to blow air around your case from the PCI lanes depending on where you choose to put it.

If you add any fans to the frame it instantly takes up two PCI Lanes. adding more frames horizontally will take up a lot more and you should be wary of space constraints first.  Most people will use it how we do though, this set up would be idle to feed your graphics card with some extra air in a case with low airflow.

One thing I did notice is that because the FMK-01 only secures from one end by two screws it is difficult to get it perfectly level both in terms of the horizontal and vertical so you will need to spend some time lining it up and balancing it securely into place.

Prolimatech’s FMK-01 costs about $10.99 in the USA and €14.99 in Europe. It certainly isn’t the cheapest way to add some extra airflow to your case but if you are lacking fan mounting options and need some extra airflow on your motherboard then the FMK-01 is a bit of a God send.

eTeknix says: If you are looking for a simple but effective way of mounting some extra fans into your PCI lanes without buying one of those rubbish pre-assembled “PCI VGA coolers” then the FMK-01 is great because it gives you great flexibility to install up to two vertical and two horiztonal 120mm (or less) fans. If you’ve got an air starved chassis this would be a great way to get things moving again.
