QNAP partnered with AMD for their latest NAS series called the TVS-x73 and the new series comes in three different sizes: 4-bay, 6-bay. and 8-bay. The TVS-x73 series is built with an AMD Embedded R-Series quad-core APU and up to 64GB RAM, it comes with AES-NI hardware encryption engine, has two M.2 SATA 6Gb/s SSD slots with SSD cache function, USB 3.1 (10Gbps), 10GbE expandability, dual HDMI output, and hardware-assisted 4K video decoding and encoding acceleration – to name a few things.

“We chose the powerful AMD R-Series APU for the new TVS-x73 series as it incorporates exceptional CPU and AMD Radeon R7 Graphics performance, delivering a high-performance and energy-efficient NAS solution,” said Y.T. Lee, Vice President of QNAP, adding “Featuring the latest QTS 4.3 operating system, the TVS-x73’s built-in USB 3.1 10Gbps connectivity and the potential for 10GbE expandability are a further boost for performance-conscious organizations and professionals.”

The TVS-x73 series is built in a great looking metal design with a gold finish and it is intended for SMBs. It is powered by an AMD RX-421BD quad-core APU with a 2.1 GHz base clock and a 3.4 GHz boost, and dual-channel 8GB/16GB/64GB DDR4 RAM (up to 64GB), has four Gigabit LAN ports and two built-in M.2 SSD slots (which can benefit from Qtier Technology to optimize storage efficiency across M.2 SSDs, SATA SSDs, and HDDs), and is capable of delivering up to 1,172 MB/s throughput. That’s impressive. It also features two PCIe slots for greater system flexibility, but one of them is already occupied by the pre-installed dual-port USB 3.1 Type-A card while the other one is free for an optional QNAP dual-port 10GbE (10GBASE-T or SFP+) network card.

The 3rd generation AMD GCN architecture supports 4K H.264 video decoding and stunning 4K UHD display, making this series ideal for applications for media storage and playback. It has both dual HDMI output and comes bundled with a remote control for a great audiovisual experience.

The TVS-x73 series also supports QNAP’s new USB QuickAccess technology for direct connection to computers via USB, offering great plug-and-use convenience to access files stored on the NAS with up to 100 MB/s throughput. Users can quickly complete the first-time NAS installation and then directly access NAS files in everyday use through this port. It can also be scaled in storage capacity besides the built-in ports with QNAP expansion enclosures or the Virtual JBOD feature where you can use unused storage space from other QNAP NAS’.
