QNAP Launches Impressive TS-x53B Series

QNAP’s newest NAS series is quite a nice one, packing more features and function than it’s common while keeping the price low enough to be a viable solution for SMB and SOHO users. The new TS-x53B series comes with a quad-core CPU, USB QuickAccess, 4K capabilities, and an M.2 and 10GbE expansion option through the built-in PCI-Express slot.
“The TS-x53B is the first NAS in its class to provide PCIe expansion, which provides fantastic long-term potential for the NAS to be upgraded to include features such as SSD caching and 10GbE connectivity,” said Jason Hsu, Product Manager of QNAP. “For users who seek high productivity and smart workflows, the TS-x53B series offers a compelling choice in big features,” Hsu added.
The new QNAP NAS series cosists of three models: The two-bay TS-253B, the four-bay TS-453B, and the six-bay TS-653B. The processor inside the new series is a 14 nm Intel Celeron J3455 quad-core that runs with a 1.5GHz base clock and has a burst speed up to 2.3GHz. When it comes to memory, each model has two options, either 4GB or 8GB dual-channel DDR3L RAM. The 4GB model is naturally upgradable to 8GB too.
One of the really cool features on the NAS, seeing as it is a SOHO/SMB device, is the PCI-Express expansion slot that allows you to expand the hardware functionality and take your performance to new levels. You could, for example, install the newly released QNAP QM2 add-in card that comes in a variety of options. The QM2 card can add up to two M.2 SATA or PCIE SSD slots as well as a 10GbE connection. There are four different card models, allowing you to pick the one that’s right for you. Naturally, you can also install a 10GbE 10GBASE-T/SFP+ card, a USB 3.1 host card, or a wireless network card in the slot.
Other connections include two microphone jacks and one audio jack, two HDMI ports that support 4K/30FPS, five USB 3.0 ports, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, and an SD card reader. The NAS also features the awesome QuickAccess port that allows you to use the NAS as a DAS. There’s even a built-in speaker in this system.
QNAP created a new design for this series, breaking with the traditions. The TS-x53B series comes with an all new sliding cover for the drive bays and it even has a built-in OLED panel. That’s a feature rarely seen in such small models and all three TS-x53B models have it. The display even has two dual-capacitive buttons while the drive bays feature tool-less installation for the easiest setup and installation possible.
The included remote control is also quite nice with 17 buttons, allowing you to have a lot more control of your media content when using the NAS as a home entertainment system.
Powered by the latest QTS 4.3 operating system, the TS-x53B provides rich applications for everyday tasks from the built-in App Center. With “IFTTT Agent” and “Qfiling”, the TS-x53B helps automates common tasks and workflows to improve efficiency and productivity. “Cinema28” allows for managing connected media devices from a single platform. “Qsync” and “Hybrid Backup Sync” make file sharing and syncing across devices more easily. “QmailAgent” and “Qcontactz” allow management of multiple email accounts and contact information. “Qsirch” provides full-text search for users to quickly find files needed. “Surveillance Station” offers 4 free IP camera channels (up to 40 channels by purchasing additional licenses). “QVR Pro (Beta)” integrates video surveillance features into QTS, providing user-defined recording storage space, cross-platform client tools, camera controls, and intelligent storage management functions.
The QTS-Linux dual systems TS-x53B series also allows users to develop or utilise IoT packages for Linux and display them using HDMI output. Users can also host virtual machines and containers on the TS-x53B through Virtualization Station and Container Station. Storage space can be flexibly expanded using 8-bay UX-800P or 5-bay UX-500P expansion units or with QNAP VJBOD technology that allows the unused space of a QNAP NAS to expand the capacity of other QNAP NAS.
