Razer SW:TOR Edition Headset Review

First impressions of the headset out of the box, as implied by the name of the product, it is designed for star wars fans and frankly, it couldn’t look more suited. For any star wars fan the shape and design of the headset will be very familiar. The material it is made out of however is a matt grey plastic and not metal as the renders may suggest..

The fabric on the insides of the ear cup also bares the tie fighter wing pattern which is actually pretty cool and a nice feature that could easily be overlooked. The headset weighs enough to feel like a sturdy bit of kit but also light enough to not be too much of a burden when worn. The build quality initially felt a bit cheap, the ear cups move around quite a bit and do not feel strongly attached the headband.

The mic boom and buttons however do feel very high quality.  The microphone boom can rotate either up or down and the boom itself can be bent to bring the mic closer or further away from your mouth. The faction logos are easy to pop off and are backlit by a white panel that lights up when the headset is plugged in. The symbols are located with a few pins and seem to be held in place by magnets.

The buttons on the back on the left and right ears control the volume and mute of the mic and speakers respectively.

One  of the gripes with the symbols is that as they are pre-coloured gold and backlit by a white panel, apart from choosing the faction symbol, you cannot choose how the symbols look. It would have been nice to be able to change the lighting so maybe the imperial symbol could have been backlit in the canon red instead of gold.

The USB cable is 2 metres long, braided and has a gold plated USB connector, it is feels like a very high quality cable and doesn’t feel like it will fray or get damaged at all.
