Razer’s ‘Project Fiona’ goes into production

At CES earlier this year, peripheral maker Razer unveiled something of a big surprise to virtually everyone – a gaming tablet called Project Fiona. It was just a prototype, but it featured an Intel Core i7 processor, an unnamed GPU, a 10.1-inch 1280×800 capacitive multi-touch display, and two joystick handles that featured dual analog sticks and a typical controller-style button layout.

This was enough for Project Fiona  to win “Best of CES” and other awards, and at the time Razer gave hints that we could expect the gaming slate in the second half of this year, but up until now they’ve had their lips sealed.

The news was unleashed due to Razer’s CEO, Min-Liang Tan, posting a picture on Facebook of Project Fiona, where he asked for 10,000 likes within 7 days – which happened, easily. The Razer CEO then confirmed through Twitter that production of the gaming slate is now running along, as well as stating that community feedback played a significant role in the design process going forward.

The gaming slate’s hardware has not been confirmed, and it could switch to an ARM-based design, which would negatively impact performance compared to an Intel Core i7 option. Hopefully Razer either move to something with similar performance to the Core i7, or beef up the GPU.
