Any UK child of the Eighties will be familiar with The Sinclair ZX Spectrum, the best-selling 8-bit home computer that turned a generation of Beano readers into gamers. Now, Sir Clive Sinclair, the computer’s creator, has launched a Kickstarter for a Spectrum revival, a retro gaming system called the Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega.
The Vega is a glorified ZX Spectrum emulator; an all-in-one controller, styled after its Eighties counterpart, containing an ARM-based SOC, memory chip, and flash RAM, and over 14,000 ZX Spectrum games.
The first run of 1,000 units will be limited edition, priced at £100. Proceeds from the limited edition sales will go to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. The standard model is not yet priced, but is said to cost “well below £100”.
