A Closer Look
Taking a look at the actual mouse, we see a lot of buttons. This is not a bad thing, or necessarily a good thing. There are effectively 10 buttons, although only 8 are really visible.
Starting from the left hand side, there are the two forward and back buttons in the standard position designed to be operated by the thumb. Moving towards the top of the mouse we can nearly guarantee that with any gaming mouse it will have a DPI switch of some form and the Roccat Kone is no exception, in fact it has both an up and down DPI button.
Moving further forward on the top of the mouse we come to the scroll wheel which has a few clever features. It is classed as being a Universal Scroll Wheel’ this means in fact it has the ability to pivot in both horizontal directions as well as giving you the standard forward and backward scroll. This is designed to allow you to tilt left and right during games mainly aimed at COD games and other first person shooters. There is also a button at the front of the scroll wheel which by default is programmed to open the Windows Start Menu. Of course, there are the standard left and right buttons which are made of the same piece of material and span most the length of the mouse. They also have pretty much no resistance to being pressed.
Another part of this mouse, is the lighting system, there are in fact 5 lights in this mouse all of which can light up with a different colour. They are located in the 4 corners of the mouse, on the plastic strips either side and the 5th is located in the Roccat logo at the back of the mouse. Unfortunately, they did not photograph well.
On the right hand side, there are no buttons at all. This mouse is as such designed for right-handed only users.
