How Much Does it Cost?

The Roccat Syn Pro Air Wireless 3D Audio RGB Headset is available now from most major retailers. It’s currently on Amazon UK for £129.99, which isn’t exactly cheap. However, you have to remember that this is a premium wireless headset, promising long battery life, and that does add to the price quite a lot. Furthermore, it’s got many really cool features, such as the 3D audio, detachable folding microphone and USB-C, which go a long way to justifying the price tag.

However, that price puts it up against the SteelSeries Arctis 7 Wireless, HyperX Cloud Flight, and Corsair HS70 Pro, all of which offer very competitive performance and style of their own.

Overview

I really like this headset, but it’s not without its quirks. For starters, the software needs urgently improving to deal with some bugs and provide a clearer explanation to the user what each setting does. Albeit, I’m not going to rib Roccat on this one too hard, as they themselves say this is BETA software and under active development. However, I will be checking back in the not too distant future to gauge their efforts.

EQ

The default settings on the headset sound great, but some way of changing the profile or EQ from on the headset would be nice. However, it’s not a deal-breaker as once I’ve got my EQ set, I pretty much never change it. Boost the bass and the treble a bit, turn off the RGB and I’m pretty much set for life; I suspect 99.9% of users are the same.

Ergonomics

The fit of this headset is excellent, it fits me like it was made for me and I really can’t complain about that. The new padding and materials they’ve used in general are very comfortable on the skin. The padding is breathable on warmer days so you don’t get sweaty ears, which is a nice bonus. Furthermore, the rotatable ear cups allow for added comfort, which the adjustable headband ensures a perfect fit. Well… unless you have a particularly small head, as I said before, children under 10 may find the headset is too big to provide any support for the ear cups.

Powerful Drivers

The drivers are nice and powerful, and while they’re sure to wow you at higher volumes it’s their low volume performance that stands out even more. Most headsets sound a bit pathetic under 50% and I find the lower half of the volume range ramps off far too early. Not with this headset, as I can use them from around 10% and still hear my music rather nicely. You still get a good dynamic range at lower volumes, and honestly, huge thumbs up to Roccat for this. Furthermore, they provide a really good and natural side-tone with the included microphone. Being able to adjust the level of monitoring independent of the master volume makes monitoring my own voice and my surroundings easier than ever.

Gaming

For gaming, the 3D audio sounds fantastic. The addition of Super Human Hearing mode means that you really do have a significant advantage in competitive shooters, as it’s effortless to hear your enemies around you. Albeit, it doesn’t sound realistic, but it’s a fair trade. However, for me, a bit of EQ, keep the 3D on, and maybe a little more bass for movies, and the sound is really excellent overall. The clarity is sublime, sounding like a Hi-Res headset at times, which is impressive.

Should I Buy One?

Powerful sound, incredible battery life, fantastic ergonomics, and a very modern and stylish design with some unique RGB integration make the Roccat Sync Pro Air Wireless the best Roccat headset to date and a huge upgrade to their older designs. While the software still needs some work, the core technology here is on point, and while not cheap, it is competitively priced with similarly equipped rivals.
