Rumor Suggests Intel Will Launch Alder Lake-S This September

Yes, Rocket Lake-S is still yet to officially hit shelves and, as such, we still don’t really know yet just how good (or bad) it will be. I have to confess that in terms of a true next-gen upgrade, Alder Lake-S definitely seems to be offering a lot more to consumers in terms of true technological upgrades. It seems, however, that following a report via Videocardz, Rocket Lake-S may be going to the way of Kabylake as one source is claiming Intel will officially launch the Alder Lake-S platform this September!

Now, firstly we should say that this announcement doesn’t come as a huge shock. It’s been well known for at least the last 3-4 months that Intel fully intended (all going well) to release their Alder Lake-S CPUs before the end of this year. However, with this new and fresh fuel to the fire, it would seem to tie into all of the existing speculations that we’ll see a September launch date with a late-October/Early-November release.

And, just in case you haven’t been keeping up with the news, with Intel transitioning Alder Lake-S to a new motherboard socket, we’re also going to see all those new wonderful DDR5 ready 600-series motherboards!

What Do We Think?

With Alder Lake-S releasing so quickly after Rocket Lake-S, it does beg the question, to those of you who still reside in the Intel CPU camp, as to whether it’s actually worth bothering getting the former platform based on the fact that, within around 6 months, it’s likely set to be superseded. And quite significantly too in probable comparative performance terms. While I can’t answer that question for you, I will say that my excitement for Rocket Lake-S is quite tepid. However, I am extremely interested to see what they can do with their new 10nm Alder Lake-S platform! – Part of me, however, suspects that for as amazing as it’s going to be, it’s probably not going to come cheaply!
