When does a tablet become stop being a tablet and instead become more of a laptop? Samsung are pushing size boundaries by releasing a new 13-inch tablet before the dawn of 2015.
We’ve learned that most tablets available on the market around this size contain only Windows operating systems, so Samsung are looking to break this trend by offering their new beast up with Android OS shining on a LCD display. Unfortunately the information about this tablets release and features haven’t been made clear, with many sources conflicting and arguing about the release features of the product. Some claim a LCD screen will be utilized, with others saying that a Super AMOLED is more fitting given it is installed into the Samsung Galaxy Tab S amongst other conflicts. We’ll release the full information to you when it is confirmed direct from Samsung.
News reports have also hinted that Apple is looking to release a 12.9-inch tablet early next year, so Samsung’s announced release for late 2014 see’s them once again going head-to-head with the tech giant.
Back to the original question however, how big is too big for a tablet? We’ve seen a trend come and go for 13-inch ‘netbooks’ and Apple have released new iterations of their extremely popular 13-inch MacBook Air laptops. Is a 13-inch tablet really necessary? My opinion may be jaded as I currently own a Nexus 7 (never used), a 16-inch laptop (for travel) and a desktop PC – I find it hard to justify yet another device in the middle.
We’re interested to hear your feedback here at eTeknix, does the 13-inch tablet have a place? If so, where is it?
