Upgrading to the Sapphire RX 7900 XT

So, when it comes to getting a huge performance upgrade for under £1000, it’s a choice between the RTX 4080 and the RX 7900 XT, and given that from my own review experience of testing these cards, I know that the XT is faster in rasterisation, so that’s the one I’m going for. That, and it’s got to be the Sapphire Pulse version, having owned many of their cards going back to my HD 4770, it’s a no-brainer for me. However, one key factor here, is that’ll leave enough money in my £1000 budget to replace the old monitor too.

The card looks stunning, with those huge angular fans dominating the heatsink. It looks like a jacked-up version of one of the AMD reference cards too. However, at 2.5 slots and with a triple fan heatsink, it’s big, but it’s not as hilariously big as the flagship Nvidia cards, so case compatibility is going to be much higher.

Of course, it’s still a fantastic-looking bit of kit too, and with it using a more traditional 8+8 PSU connector configuration, you’re not going to need to upgrade your PSU to deal with it, that is unless you’re packing under the recommended 700W, but even that’s pretty reasonable.

It fits in the NZXT H7 Flow with room to spare and looks fantastic with that black and red heatsink and backplate design.

It even came with its own anti-sag bracket, although to be honest the card was so rigid it didn’t seem it needed it, but hey, it certainly couldn’t hurt either!
