Sapphire 7900 XT & AOC AGON Pro 34″ – Time for Some Ultrawide Gaming!

How Much Does it Cost?

OK, so admittedly the AOC AGON Pro 34″ monitor is a bit on the expensive side with prices ranging from £999 to £1200 if there are no deals available, but you do get what you pay for. If that is a little overkill for you, however, there are plenty of more affordable ultrawide gaming monitors on the market, such as the AOC Gaming CU34G2X which is currently down to just £338.99!

You can get the Sapphire 7900 XT graphics card for £799.99, however at the time of writing it was £728.99 at OCUK and that comes bundled with Starfield too, which certainly sweetens the deal! It’s proven to be one of the best AMD cards on the market, but honestly, whenever I buy an AMD card I’ve always found Sapphire to deliver quality and performance that’s on par or better than the competition when some brands like ASUS simply charge you more because it says “ASUS” on it… not that ASUS cards aren’t nice too, but my point stands.

Overview

Overall though, that does mean you can get an ultrawide gaming monitor, such as the more affordable CU34G2X as well as a Sapphire 7900 XT for £1067.98 right now, and considering that would also include a copy of Starfield at the time of writing, that’s a pretty sweet deal. Of course, if you wanted to go all out and get the truly astonishing AOC Agon Pro monitor I tested (full review here), well, pretty much the same deal, but you’ll get just enough change from £2000 to order yourself a nice takeaway for games night.

As far as the overall experience though, there’s no doubt that the Sapphire 7900 XT has the performance needed for high refresh rate ultrawide gaming. Sure, there are the more powerful and more expensive XTX cards, and Nvidia have a fair few cards of their own that compete too. However, with the green team, you’ll be paying a fair bit more money for the equivalent RTX 4080. I like both red and green team cards, it’s what I do for a living to test both, but that’s a big premium for your average consumer to swallow.

What’s right for you, that’s not for me to say. However, if you are looking to get a more immersive gaming experience, then I have to hold my hands up and declare you don’t need the flagship card such as the Sapphire 7900 XTX, as you can have all the fun you need with a 7900 XT and a more affordable ultrawide monitor for the same combined price as the XTX. Of course, if you wanted to drop another £200-300 on a more potent GPU, nobody is stopping you… Maybe Sapphire should send me the XTX so I can see what that’s like for 4K gaming next?
