Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X OC 3GB Graphics Card Review

Overclocking

Overclocking the Sapphire R9 280X was reasonable. Considering that this is already a HD 7970 pushed to its limits I was surprised that there was still much more room to manoeuvre in. Of course R9 280X buyers will find that overclocking isn’t as plentiful as they might hope in relative % terms because of that reason. Despite that we managed 90MHz more on the core and 50MHz more on the memory meaning total overclocks of 8.4% and 3.2% respectively. This allowed us to get 10820 in 3DMark 11 which is 5.06% more than what we got with this card at its factory stock, which was P10299.

Below you can see how this cards maximum overclocked performance compares with the maximum overclocked performance of other high end GPUs. The card easily breezes past the GTX 760 which is only $50 cheaper and it is on par with the GTX 770 which is about $100 more expensive.
