Seagate Black Panther Special Edition FireCuda Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Seagate Black Panther Special Edition FireCuda External Hard Drive is available now with an MSRP of £124.99, and it’s currently on Amazon UK for £133.65. These do tend to sell out fairly quick this time of year as they make good Christmas gifts. However, don’t be too disheartened as there are more to pick from with prices ranging from £90-135.

Overview

There’s not really too much to go over with this drive, but that’s a good thing. There are no issues with the performance, or at least, it’s performance was on par with what I expected of it. These are drives based on fairly old technology now, but that does mean the price is kept reasonably low too. Seagate make a much faster Type-C connection USB 3.1 2TB SSD in a similar form factor, but it’s £229.45, but if you need something fast, you get what you pay for.

The form factor is sensible enough, I wouldn’t have much of an issue slotting this into a decent size laptop backpack/side bag for travelling with. It’s not really practical to pop it in your pocket, but it would fit if you really had to. Ideally, this is a drive you’ll leave on your desktop or next to your TV/console, it’s “portable” but not really designed to be dragged around everywhere with you.

2TB is plenty for most users too. It’s enough to backup important pictures, videos, work files, etc. You can keep a reasonable size media library on it too, if you need somewhere to store a few movie backups or games.

Should I Buy One?

While I would buy one of these myself, they’re a great gift too. Pick a Special Edition drive with a cool picture on it for a fan of Marvel, Star Wars, God of War or whatever, and it’s sure to please. Affordable, portable-ish, stylish and practical, it’s not going to have you jumping with excitement, but it’s about as exciting as affordable external storage can be, so that’s good!
