Seagate FireCuda 530 2 TB M.2 SSD Review

How Much Does it Cost?

There is no doubt about the performance of this drive, but of course, that does come at a cost. It’s competitively priced, which is to say it’s very expensive, but so are rival brands Gen4 drives that promise similar levels of performance. I guess you could argue that you get what you pay for. This is a premium drive, and one of the fastest on the market today, so I think the price is wholly justified. You can find the 500GB model for £104, the 1TB model for £191, the 2TB for £326, and finally, the monstrous 4TB for the princely sum of £879.

Overview

The latest drive from Seagate promised to deliver extremely fast performance, and put simply, it did exactly that. That being said, it’s up against some very fierce competition right now, with incredible drives from the likes of ACER Predator, Samsung, TeamGroup and a few others. That being said, Seagate has no reason to worry, as their drive can compete with the best of the best all day long, and being the fastest drive from Seagate, it’s also a little bit faster than its rivals too. It’s truly an impressive drive, and if you’re tired of long loading screens, you should buy one immediately.

Of course, one big advantage of this drive is that it’s fully verified for the PlayStation 5. That means you can drop it into your lovely console and reap all the benefits of ultra-fast loading times that you have come to expect from the main drive in the system. What’s actually amusing is the latest Seagate drive is actually even faster than the built-in storage, so it certainly won’t hold you up any time soon.

The Seagate FireCuda 530 really is the sum of its parts too. It uses the best 3D NAND from TLC, paired with that fantastic E18 controller, and plenty of DDR4 RAM. It’s all class-leading hardware that really ensures the best performance from each of the internal components. I saw no issues with throttling or temperatures on this drive, and frankly, that doesn’t surprise me one bit. It’s built well, it’s built to last, and while that’s reflected in the price, you won’t get any complaints from me.

Should I Buy One?

If you’re looking for uncompromising performance on either PlayStation 5 or PC, then you’ll find it right here. Not only is it one of the fastest drives on the market today, but it’ll also likely be one of the fastest Gen4 drives we will ever see. While I know the price is high, it’s still surprisingly competitive in today’s market, and thanks to its build quality, awesome performance and fantastic warranty, you really do get what you pay for.
