A Closer Look – Exterior

First impressions of the 1050w are certainly positive, as it is immediately apparent that this is a premium grade product. It’s quite heavy, but I’ll take that as a sign of quality and it’s not like you’re going to be lifting it every other day anyway.

There’s a large fan grille on the top, which a nice two-tone gunmetal grey finish that should blend in well with most system builds.

There’s a little detailing on the side to keep it looking interesting, as well as some branding. The base of the unit is blank, so it should look neat and tidy if you’re mounting it inverted.

Around the back, you’ll find a lot of ventilation, which is always a good thing, as well as a large power button that should be easy to locate when you’ve got to reach behind your computer.

On the business end of the PSU, you’ll find a split 24 pin connector, four peripheral connectors and seven CPU/PCI-E, which is more than enough to hook up a wide range of GPUs and motherboards power requirements. Also, quite importantly, there’s a hybrid/normal mode switch. The hybrid mode allows for 0dBa performance and lower fan RPM at higher loads, while normal mode is for always on and higher fan speeds; handy for warmer environments.

Cabling

The included cables are of a very high quality with all black wires, braiding and connectors, so things should look neat and tidy inside your system; no garish coloured cables here!

What I do love is that with the exception of the heavy-duty and braided 24-pin cable, all the others are flat-type cables and that will reap a huge benefit for those who care about cable management.
