Silicon Power SP Bolt B10 256GB USB SSD Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing and Availability

At the time of review, the Silicon Power SP Bolt B10 with 256GB can be yours for £111.11. The smaller 128GB version will cost you £74.89 while the larger 512GB will cost you £182.22.

Conclusion

The SP Bolt B10 is a standard portable SSD in a credit card-sized form factor. It is both tiny and lightweight, making it perfect when you’re on the go. It won’t be a problem to find a place to store it away,  whether it is in your pants, jacket, or handbag, there is room for the Bolt B10.

The drive has a nice black finish, but the main chassis is only made of plastic. While it isn’t as durable as the Bolt B80, for example, it’s also cheaper. And as long as you don’t throw it around or are extremely clumsy, then it won’t be a problem. The silver line running around the drive breaks everything up a little bit, giving it a fresher look.

Being a USB 3.1 Gen.1 drive, there are some limitations in regards to performance. Still, you easily get four times the performance when compared to a hard disk drive and that is what this drive is meant to replace. SSDs are generally far better suited for portable storage solutions. They are far less prone to damage from shocks and drops and that’s a bonus at any time.

The drive should last you a long time too with the built-in LDPC error correction and wear levelling technologies. There’s also a nice software package in form of SP Widget. It allows for data backup and restoration tasks as well as AES 256-bit encryption and cloud storage.

Pros

  • Better shock protection and faster performance than HDD counterparts
  • Tiny and lightweight, making it perfect on the go
  • Up to 512GB with over 400MB/s
  • Clean and simplistic design

Cons

  • None

“Silicon Power’s Bolt B10 fits right into your pocket. It’s lighter, faster, and more durable than an HDD counterpart.”

We would like to thank Silicon Power for this sample.
