Silverstone SST-EP02 & SST-MS07 Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

For such a simple product, realistically we don’t want to be forking out too much cash and this is something that Silverstone have taken into consideration with both of these products. On Amazon’s US outlet, the SST-EP02 SATA adaptor can be found for around $32, whilst the EP07 Silicone case is a more modest $4.99, giving a total combined price of just under $37. In the UK, online retailer Overclockers UK stock the EP02 for £14.99 and the MS07 for £4.99 whilst Scan Computers have slightly lower price on the EP02 of £10.78 and the MS07 £4.99.

Overview

When it comes to reviewing simple, down to earth storage accessories such as the EP02 and the MS07, there is not a great deal that one can say about them in general. After a number of years producing small accessories such as those seen here, we know that Silverstone do put a good deal of effort into everything with all the little details taken care of in the same way that we would expect them to on a full chassis. With the EP02 in particular offering a quick and easy solution to mounting an SSD (for example) onto another system for diagnostics, it simply makes life that much easier. The MS07 is also well thought through and when removing our WD Red hard drive from the case we did feel a good bit of resistance from the silicone and this is good as the last thing any of us want is for the drive to easily slip out and hit the floor.

For a total cost of under $37 in the US and under £20 in the UK, Silverstone’s combo is far more affordable than a metal or plastic enclosure, making things that much cheaper by the time you factor in an SSD or HDD as well. Things are just plain and simple and for the price you simply can’t go wrong, even if you are only going to use the EP02 on the odd occasion. As a result, convenience is not as expensive as one might think.

Pros:

  • Strong levels of performance under USB3.0 conditions
  • Simple, easy to use design
  • Overall cost is inexpensive
  • High level of quality from a well-known brand.

Cons:

  • 12v power supply for 3,5″ drives not included

There are bucket loads of external drive enclosures for 2.5″ drives out on the market and also a fair share of adaptors to go alongside them. Silverstone’s EP02 SATA to USB3.0 converter and MS07 2.5″ Silicone case combo is a no thrills, down to earth solution for anyone that wants an inexpensive way to gain additional storage for a laptop or for use on the go.”
