Sony Ericsson reveals three new Xperia handsets

Sony Ericsson has further expanded its range of Xperia handsets with two Andoird phones and a QWERTY handset.

Firstly the Xperia ray which is probably the most interesting of the three, not least because it is already confirmed to be coming to the UK. The Xperia ray boasts a 3.3″ screen that has been called a “Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine” or in our minds ‘a high-quality display’ although the resolution is only 854*480 this matches almost all of the competition.

The Xperia ray comes with a nice 1GHZ CPU which supports Androids ‘Gingerbread’ while packing a 8.1-megapixel Exmor sensor for its camera.

Moving to the Xperia active, which has the same CPU, display and Android OS. However, it only has a 5-megapixel camera but has a more rugged, dust and water resistant casing as well as incorporating ‘wet finger tracking’ to ensure the Xperia active can be used in damp environments.

The Xperia active will come preloaded with a selection of apps designed to track fitness statistics. Heart rate and pulse monitoring is offered via built in ANT+ wireless tech (shame they didn’t use Pulse or Nike+). Unfortunately no word on whether this handset will hit the UK as yet.

Finally, the Xperia txt (yes, it is text English!) which features a QWERTY keyboard and is designed to complement the Xperia txt pro which has been previously announced. It also features Google Talk compatibility, a Facebook app although it does lack 3G. The screen however is probably a bit below par with a 2.6″, 240*320 display.

I certainly hope they have priced this as the budget Blackberry.
