Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection Has Awful Launch

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection released today and was meant to be a hit as both of the original Star Wars Battlefront games are considered to be some of the best. Unfortunately for developers Aspyr behind the modern port, they’ve somehow ballsed this one up more than Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2019) and also after such a successful remaster of the original Tomb Raider Trilogy.

Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection

The Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection released today and already has 1,525 reviews which are all mostly negative which somehow makes the launch of this remaster worse than some of the other rubbish we’ve been dealt with in the past year or so. This launch also pales in comparison to Aspyrs other launch of the Tomb Raider 1-3 remaster just last month which features very positive reviews.

So, what’s gone wrong? Well to summarise the heaps of negative reviews, the game launched with only 3 servers clearly underestimating the popularity of the game, and when they did launch more servers they were terrible with high ping, stuttering and an all round bad experience. Now whilst the single player portion of the game is fine, the multiplayer which is arguably the most popular portion isn’t working as expected.

Just for reference, the servers can host 64 people and with 3 servers that allows for a total of 192 people. Now I’m not a mathematician, but I don’t think that can account for the peak 9,232 players that played the game at launch. (SteamDB)

Now I’m not a Star Wars fan (sorry) but its still disappointing to see such a poor launch of a game. Now admittedly this is something that will be remedied in the coming weeks but it really should’ve been ready from the get go.

Oh and just to top it all off, the game is 62GB for some reason.
